1/2/13

A New Beginning!

Temporary Exhibit 1 of 6 and New Restaurant 1 of 2 (2 might have been a low number goal...?):

My first day of 2013 was nothing short of LOVELY! I hope it was the same for you!

After the first run of the year, I got ready to head over to the Upper East Side for brunch with Erin. We went to a restaurant called "Candle Cafe," which has been on my radar for a while. They had a New Years Day brunch specials menu, which included a Tofu Scrambled. It was SUPERB. So far, the best meal of the year (the superlatives won't get old for another week)!
And then, we went to Ann Hamilton's "the event of a thread" at the Park Avenue Armory...and it was so neat! There are a number of massive swings (fit for two - great for a girly day out!) that hang from the ceilings, entangled with ropes that moves a large white sheet in the center of the auditorium, allowing it to billow beautifully. We laid down below the sheet, while listening to monotonous voices from the speaker. The art is difficult to piece together and understand. At the front of the space, two readers speak into microphones, while reading long scrolls of text. On the other side, Ann Hamilton watches the room's activity through a mirror and writes her observations and evaluations...while visitors peer at her work, take photos of her, and generally, look at her curiously. She stays very serious and pensive. It feels like I'm missing something, so I'll be reading up on the concept soon.
This is Ann Hamilton - hard at work.
Erin and me!
The spotlights outline the trajectory of the massive swings! An adult's playground!
It is impossible to take a bad photo.
It was a wonderful way to start the new year! We're officially into January 2013! :)

Love,
